TROMjaro 2025.12.10

This ISO boots in UEFI or normal BIOS mode. No more limitations. I put a lot of effort into this ISO since there was a lot to fix in terms of packages conflicts, or dropped packages from Manjaro’s repos, so I had to add some to our own repo. This is mostly to keep our TROMjaro unique in terms of theme synchronization across QT and GTK. I do not know any distro that does it as good as us. Pretty much any application you install on TROMjaro should use the theme you have selected for your install.

A few changes:

  • We replaced the default RSS Reader app from Newsflash to Feeds. Feeds is indeed trade-free without nonsense integrations and it is more functional and easy to use.

  • We replaced the default search engine for our customized Firefox. We used to use our TROM Search which is a meta search for SearX. SearX is also a search aggregator that uses Google, Bing and the like to extract searches and to display them trade-free. Problem is the vast majority of these SearX instances have become limited by these search giants and most do not even work. The searches started to either do not work or suck.

Considering that, I decided to add DuckDuckGo with the NonAI feature. Since we already have an adblocker into the browser then we make DDG trade-free for you. And since we use their NonAI version is a lot less crap in the searches.

To add it go to Settings and then Search. Scroll down and select to add a search engine. For URL add https://noai.duckduckgo.com/search?q=%s

  • We may have fixed an issue we had with the default TROMjaro wallpaper not displaying when installing TROMjaro on a physical machine. It worked in a VM tho. Now should work regardless. I hope

I was just about to post on the current search engine issues - synchronicity! Great job @Tio AI is an intriguing development, I have recently subscribed to Proton’s Lumo AI because it uses open source models. I am yet to explore it and I think there could be some great benefits if used well.

I would be very concerned to use any LLM (AI) for search. They can at best be partially true. Better use the normal search and see if you trust the source of the information. Open sourcing these LLMs is good, but for search they will always be incomplete and sketchy.
